Village Life Experience

Eastern India is home to 585 tribes & most of which are listed & recognized amongst the existing tribal societies. This diversity probably that Eastern India offers is varied & each of the north eastern states have a distinctive difference in terms of the cuisine, customs, rituals, ways of living & costumes. The major tribes of the North East includes, Adis, Apatanis, Angami, Ao, Rengma, Nyishi, Garo, Khasi, Jaintias, Bhutias, Lepchas, Nepalese, Riang, Trippera and Tripuri. Each tribe can be categorised separately by the dress they wear, jewellery, and the dances they perform. Socially these societies follow three types of lineage system which include the matriarchal, patrilineal as well as patri-matrilineal societies. Along with separate festivals these tribes have their own dialects or languages. Regarding religion these tribes are usually followers of Christianity while religions like Buddhism and Hinduism are also followed in parts of North East India. The number of tribes are far too many to count but this is rather one of the unique features that gives North East an edge over other destinations as it boasts of a diversity that is indigenous & rooted. Taking a day off & living the life the way they do, imbibing their traditions & being part of their festivities courtesy “Hornbill Festival” of Nagaland, or  “Losar” in Sikkim, is sure to be an experience of a lifetime.
